It is derived from metal salts of 2‑ethylhexanoic acid (octoates) or their isomeric forms. It catalyzes redox reactions and even small additions result in the dissociation of autoxidant hydroperoxides and to a change in valency from Co2+ to Co3+.

It offers rapid surface drying.

It is used in solvent-based systems based on alkyds and epoxy esters that
dry by oxidation, including printing inks.

The recommended dosage level of Octa-Soligen® Cobalt 12 (oil) is 0.03-0.08% based on solid binder content.

Octa-Soligen® Barium 12.5 by Borchers (Milliken) is a barium-based drier. It enhances gloss and prevents the primary driers from being adsorbed onto pigment and extender surfaces, thereby improving the coating’s stability during long-term storage.

It offers good pigment wetting properties and promotes through-drying.

Octa-Soligen® Barium 12.5 is used for solvent-based systems based on alkyds and epoxy esters that dry by oxidation.

The recommended dosage level is 0.1-0.5% based on solid binder content.

Octa-Soligen® Zirconium 10 aqua by Borchers (Milliken) is a zirconium-based secondary drier used in combination with cobalt, manganese and calcium. It is based on metal salt of 2-ethylhexanoic acid (octoates) or their isomers.

It exhibits better properties in terms of color, yellowing, and stability.

It helps in catalyzing redox reactions, and even small additions lead to the dissociation of autoxidant hydroperoxides and to a change in valency from Co²⁺ to Co³⁺.

It promotes rapid surface drying.

It is used in solvent-based systems based on alkyds and epoxy esters that dry by oxidation, including unsaturated polyesters.

Typical usage level of Octa-Soligen® Cobalt 6 is 0.03-0.08% based on total solid binder.

Octa-Soligen® Zinc 10 by Borchers (Milliken) is a zinc-based secondary-drier. It is used in combination with primary driers (manganese or vanadium compounds). It improves through-drying, film hardness, pigment-wetting, dispersion, gloss, and color-fastness.

It prevents wrinkling and orange peel on the surface of the paint film.

It reduces the grind time when added to the formulation at an early stage.

It can be applied in large quantities without leading to film discoloration.

Octa-Soligen® Zinc 10 is used in solvent-based systems based on alkyds and epoxy esters that dry by oxidation.

The recommended dosage level is 0.03-0.50% based on solid binder.

Octa-Soligen® 144 aqua by Borchers (Milliken) is a combination drier for oxidatively drying alkyd resins. It is a multi-metal mixture for drying light-colored water-based
paints.

It is easily incorporated in aqueous coating systems.

It exhibits metal synergies which allow keeping the cobalt content to a minimum, thus reducing discoloration and yellowing.

Octa-Soligen® 144 aqua is suitable for medium- and long-oil alkyds applied at a wet film thickness below 100 microns.

The recommended dosage level is 4-7%, which is higher in aqueous systems than those used in solvent-based systems.

Octa-Soligen® 203 by Borchers (Milliken) is a special combination drier based on cobalt, barium, and zinc. It offers uniform through-drying and prevents wrinkling and skinning.
