Monoethyleneglycol. Acts as plasticizer and wetting agent. Obtained from the reaction of ethylene oxide and water. The reaction between monoethyleneglycol with dibasic acids and their esters produces polyester fibers, threads, films and polyester resins. It is recommended for synthesis of polyethylene terepthalate (PET) and unsaturated polyester resins, alkyd resins, rosin esters and polyurethane resins. Also used in the production of cellophane.
