Aktisil® MAM-R by Hoffmann Mineral acts as a functional filler. It is an activated Sillitin® V 88, produced by modifying the surface with a methacrylic functional group. It is used either on its own or combined with extenders or matting agents in UV or electron-beam cured paint and varnish applications. It is an agglomerate of corpuscular silica and lamellar kaolinite. It is quick-drying, has a matting effect, and shows breathability, good scratch-, abrasion- & weathering-, chemical- and moisture resistance.
- It provides optimum performance in binder systems which polymerize or cure due to a radically initiated reaction, including unsaturated polyester-, vinyl ester- acrylic-, melamine- & UF resins and other radically cured systems.
- It retains the excellent properties of the base material as it possesses high filling ratio, outstanding dispersion behavior, good pigment dispersion (spacer effect), low abrasiveness, very low tendency to settle, and good flatting effect.
- As compared with the base, it minimizes yield point (including a high solids content) and offers increased tensile-, bending-, wet edge- & impact strength.
- It exhibits good wettability even using binders with low polarity and provides good transparency, minimal water absorption, high water vapor permeability & improved swelling characteristics.
- Used in stoving enamels-, road marking-, special emulsion paints, wood-, foil-, and anti-corrosive coatings.
- The recommended metering level is up to 55% depending on intended application.
- The shelf life of Aktisil® MAM-R is 2 years.
