In-can Biocides for Coatings and Inks

Parmetol® A 28 S distributed by DKSH is an in-can preservative. It is a water-based combination of chloromethyl-/methylisothiazolone (CMIT/MIT) and bronopol. It has a reduced risk of contact allergy at normal use concentration. It is suitable for a broad range of water-based products.

• It shows enhanced efficacy especially against Pseudomonas sp.
• It is free of VOC, organic solvents and N-/O-formals.
• It is used in dispersion paints, textured coatings and plasters.
• It contains only biodegradable components and is fully effective in cationic, anionic and non-ionic systems.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.10-0.20% and pH range is 3-8.5.
• Parmetol® A 28 S has a shelf life of 24 months and is available in Australia, Cambodia, New Zealand, Philippines, Spain and Thailand.

ADINS® Protection N4 by Tolsa is an antimicrobial additive based on sodium pyrithione hydrous magnesium silicate. Acts as an effective in-can preservative, preventing microbial degradation during storage and ensuring product quality before application.

• It is used in industrial aqueous compositions such as latex paints, industrial coatings, polymer latices, specialty pigments and building materials.
• It does not offer dry film protection against fungi or algae.
• KATHON™ LX 1.5% is available in Canada.
• It has a shelf life of 18 months.

Parmetol® N 20 distributed by DKSH is an in-can preservative without N-/0-formals. It is free of chloromethylisothiazolone/methylisothiazolone (CMIT/MIT), heavy metals and salts. Suitable for fungicidal and bactericidal preservation of a broad range of water-based products.

• It offers a reduced risk of contact allergy at normal use concentration.
• It is nearly odorless and contains only biodegradable components.
• It is used in dispersion paints, textured coatings and plasters.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.1-0.3% and pH range is 3-8.5.
• Parmetol® N 20 has a shelf life of 24 months and is available in Australia, Cambodia, New Zealand, Philippines, Spain and Thailand.

Parmetol® MBX distributed by DKSH is a highly-effective in-can preservative without formaldehyde and AOX. It is a combination of benzisothiazolone (BIT), methylisothiazolon (MIT) and bis(3-aminopropyl)dodecylamine (BDA). It provides immediate action with long-term protection, specifically designed for fast germ count reduction in contaminated process water.

• It is used in dispersion paints, textured coatings and plasters.
• It contains only biodegradable components.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.10-0.40%.
• Parmetol® MBX has a shelf life of 18 months.
• It is available in Australia, Spain, Philippines and New Zealand.

Parmetol® SBX distributed by DKSH is a production hygiene integrated in-can preservative. It is a synergistic working combination of benzisothiazolone (BIT), sodium pyrithione and bis(3-aminopropyl)dodecylamine (BDA). It offers a broad, balanced spectrum of effect against bacteria, yeasts and molds, even at low use concentrations.

• It has a characteristic odor and is free of chloromethylisothiazolone, formaldehyde, formaldehyde depots and other aldehydes.
• It is fully effective in cationic and non-ionic systems and pH range of 3-11.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.05-0.20% for dispersion paints and printing lacquers, and 0.05-0.15% for textured coatings and plasters.
• Parmetol® SBX has a shelf life of 18 months and is available in Australia, Cambodia, New Zealand, Philippines, Spain and Thailand.

BIOPOL® JM 15 distributed by DKSH is a cost-effective, broad spectrum, biocide. It is an in-can preservative based on CMIT/MIT, EDDM and O-formal.

• It shows long term preservation, good head space protection and quick biocide activity.
• It offers protection for water based products in wet state from bacterial, fungal and algal growth.
• It is recommended for dispersion paints and polymer emulsions.
• Its balanced composition combines long terms preservation and quick biocide activity and has excellent hot climate stability.
• The shelf life of BIOPOL® JM 15 is 18 months.
• The dosage level of the grade is 0.05-0.30%.
• It is available in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden.

Vinkocide™ KTL distributed by DKSH is a broad-spectrum preservative. It is a non-volatile preservative exhibiting excellent long-term efficacy. It is an aqueous alkaline solution of 1,2-benzisothiazolin- 3(2H)-one with 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one.

• It offers broad antimicrobial spectrum against bacteria, fungi and yeasts.
• It is ideal for use in aqueous and water miscible systems.
• It is free from formaldehyde, formaldehyde releasers, phenolics or heavy metals.
• It exhibits excellent chemical stability.
• Recommended dosage level of Vinkocide™ KTL is 0.2-0.4%.

Vinkocide™ BIT 20 G distributed by DKSH is a broad-spectrum preservative. It is composed of BIT and is suitable for use in dispersion paints, plasters and printing inks.
