Aktisil® VM 56 by Hoffmann Mineral acts as a functional filler. It is an agglomerate of corpuscular silica and lamellar kaolinite. It is an activated Sillitin® Z 86, produced by modifying the surface with a vinyl functional group. Used either on its own or combined with extenders or flatting agents used in UV and electron-beam cured paints and varnish applications.
- Optimum performance is achieved in binder systems which polymerize or cure due to a radically initiated reaction which include unsaturated polyester-, vinyl ester and acrylic resins and other radically cured systems.
- It is also suitable for melamine and UF resins.
- It retains the excellent properties of the base material as it possesses high filling ratio, outstanding dispersion behavior, good pigment dispersion (spacer effect), low abrasiveness, very low tendency to settle and good flatting effect.
- It is quick-drying, has a slight flatting effect, and shows breathability, good scratch-, abrasion-, weathering-, chemical- and moisture resistance.
- As compared with the base, Aktisil® VM 56 minimizes yield point (including a high solids content) and offers excellent mechanical properties such as increased tensile-, bending-, wet edge- & impact strength.
- It achieves good transparency and exhibits good wettability even using binders with low polarity, minimal water absorption, high water vapor permeability & improved swelling characteristics.
- It is also used in stoving paints/enamels-, special emulsion paints-, primer, plastisol-, pigmented-, anti-corrosive-, wood- & foil coatings.
- It shows metering up to 50% depending on intended application.
- The shelf life of product is 3 years.
