Aktifit® AM by Hoffmann Mineral acts as a functional filler. It is an activated Silfit® Z 91, produced by modifying the surface with an amino functional group. It can be used either on its own or combined with extenders or matting agents. It is quick-drying and shows matting effect as well as good scratch-, abrasion-, chemical- & weathering resistance. Suitable for varnishes, primers & surfacers (also for automotive industry), stoving enamels and powder-, anti-corrosion-, reactive industrial- and metal (primer-surfacer)-, water-based train industry and automotive OEM coatings.
  • The by-products split off during the treatment reaction are largely removed during the production process, which firmly attaches the functional group to the filler surface and helps to minimize the undesirable side effects.
  • During curing/hardening of the coating, its amino groups react with appropriate functional groups of the binder or generate a strong interaction in the form of hydrogen bonds.
  • It also generates hydrogen bonds with inert polar groups, particularly in epoxy-, polyurethane-, polyester-, alkyd-, acrylic-, phenolic-, melamine- and all stoving enamel resins.
  • It enhances the opacity (spacer effect) of pigments and acts as a partial titanium dioxide replacement (up to 20%) in polyester-based can and coil (primer, back-coat & topcoat) coatings.
  • In clear coats, it offers good transparency without yellow tint and a slight whitish glazing effect depending on formulation principle & loading.
  • It exhibits good wettability even using binders with medium polarity, and excellent dispersion properties even without grinding.
  • It retains the excellent properties of the base as it possesses very high- brightness & color-neutrality, relatively low abrasivity, and low sieve residues, moisture content & moisture absorption.
  • Aktifit® AM also offers excellent mechanical properties like increased tensile-, flexural- & impact strength.
  • The recommended dosage level is up to 55% depending on the intended application likewise up to PVC 35.
  • It has a shelf life of 2 years.
