Supplied byBYK- Last Updated on Aug 5, 2024

BYK® 1640 by BYK is a VOC-, silicone-, APEO-, mineral oil- and emission free defoamer. It is made of polyamide particles and highly branched polymers. Exhibits optimum performance at the lowest dosage, is stable to acids & alkalis and can be used in the pH range of 3-12. Prevents microfoam production and is easy to incorporate. Shows very good compatibility with styrene acrylics, vinyl acetate ethylene, veova, acrylic copolymers and polyurethane dispersions and no negative influence on color acceptance. Recommended for the production and application of waterborne interior and exterior emulsion paints and plasters within a PVC range of 30-85. Highly recommended for aqueous architectural coatings, internal can coatings (pigmented and clearcoats), coil coatings (both in the millbase and be post-added) & paper coatings (usage level between 0.05% and 0.5%) and aqueous radiation-curable printing inks and overprint varnishes (recommended levels between 0.2% and 1.0%) used for direct food contact. Also, suitable for protective coatings (recommended use levels between 0.05% and 0.5%).
