Waxes for Coatings and Inks

THIXATROL® ST by Elementis acts as a rheological additive for use in aliphatic and aromatic solvent-based coatings. It is an organically modified castor oil derivative. It provides increased viscosity, thixotropy, pigment suspension and sag control. It improves the flow and leveling of powder coatings. It is suitable for chlorinated rubber- and decorative coatings, traffic- and anti-fouling paints.

• It offers controlled penetration into porous substrates and imparts excellent package stability and reproducibility.
• It shows no adverse effect on paint durability and no influence on water-resistance of organic systems.
• It is non-yellowing in the final formulation and does not normally react with system components.
• THIXATROL® ST is used in epoxies, polyurethanes, varnishes, air dry industrial-, high build- and hammer finishes.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.8% by weight.
• It has a shelf life of 4 years.

Ceridust® 3610 distributed by DKSH is a tough, micronized high density polyethylene wax. The narrow and fine particle size distribution provides an excellent rub resistance and a fast drying time in printing inks.

• It is a dispersing agent and degassing agent to prevent pinhole formation.
• It is recommended for polyolefin, like LLDPE, LDPE, MDPE, HDPE, etc and pasty inks.
• It improves slip properties and enhances scratch resistance in cured powder coatings.
• It also improves the color strength as well as the filter pressure value.
• It provides higher clarity and gloss levels when used in solvent-based coatings compared to standard polyethylene grades.
• It offers excellent water repellence properties in wood coatings.
• It can increase the output during extrusion process to improve the flow ability of the powder.
• Ceridust® 3610 has a shelf life of minimum two years and is available in Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

HYMICRO20 -G distributed by DKSH is a fine micronized Fischer-Tropsch wax powder with good rub resistance and excellent slip & gloss performance.

• It is excellent for use in inks due to its low melting point.
• It is recommended for use in powder coating due to the high degassing performance and easy to handle behavior.
• HYMICRO20 -G performs very well in water-based inks and is available only in Poland.

THIXCIN® R by Elementis is a non-hygroscopic rheology modifier for organic systems based on non-polar solvents. It adds thixotropic body and controls viscosity. It controls liquid penetration into porous surfaces and sag without impairing flow.

• It improves degassing, flow and leveling.
• It reduces settling of pigments and extenders.
• It produces optimum leveling in paints.
• Possesses excellent package stability and has no adverse effect on durability and light-fastness.
• It is designed for applications like wood stains, alkyd-, solvent-free epoxy-, hammer finish- and radiator paints.
• THIXCIN® R is also used in textured paints, high build paints, gel coats and surfacers and powder coatings.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.8% by weight of the total formulation and in powder coating use level is 0.2-2%.
• It has shelf life of 4 years from the date of manufacture.

Sasolwax H1N4-G distributed by DKSH is a (ground wax) micronized FT hardwax. It possesses slip-, enhanced scratch- and rub resistance. Exhibits good overprint ability in flexographic, gravure- and paste inks.

• It provides hydrophobicity as well as surface protection in wood coatings.
• It is suitable for degassing and pin hole reduction in powder coating.
• Sasolwax H1N4-G is available in Europe.

AHA2019 distributed by DKSH is a polyolefin wax based matting agent. It is used in PES/TGIC exterior durable powder coating to provide less than low gloss of 15%.

• It provides excellent color stability and flow, particularly recommended for black or dark powder shades.
• It exhibits one-shot gloss stability, excellent anti-yellowing, ease of use and spray due to lower wax content, fewer defects like sparks or spots in dark appearances, and improved burnish resistance.
• Recommended dosage level is 3-5.5% based on total formulation by weight, depending on the gloss required.
• AHA2019 has a shelf life of 3 years.
• It is available in Canada.

AHA2006 distributed by DKSH is a modified polyethylene wax-based matting agent. It is designed for outdoor-durable TGIC powder coatings, providing a gloss range of 30-40% and smooth matte finishes.

• It can also be used in other powder coatings, offering an appropriate semi-gloss finish.
• For the Primid system, approximately 60% gloss can be achieved however, it has a tendency to cause significant yellowing, so it is not recommended for this application.
• Recommended dosage level is 3% by total weight of formulation.
• AHA2006 has a shelf life of 3 years.
• It is available in Canada.

THIXATROL® P230X by Elementis is a special polyamide wax dispersion based rheology modifier which prevents settling of pigments and fillers and improves sag resistance. It shows excellent anti-settling of heavy pigments such as micaceous iron oxides, zinc dust and anti-corrosive pigments; in some instances, soft settling may occur which can be easily re-dispersed.

• It imparts strong thixotropic properties and anti-sagging effect especially in high film-build coatings.
• It easy to disperse and enhances orientation of metallic and pearlescent pigments.
• It is used in paints, protective-, wood-, auto refinish-, general industrial-, and solvent-based coatings and inks.
• Recommended dosage level is 1.0-5.0%.
• THIXATROL® P230X has a shelf life of 18 months.

THIXATROL® P2100W by Elementis is a special polyamide based waterborne rheology modifier which provides anti-sagging, anti-settling properties.

• It improves orientation of metallic & pearlescent pigments in waterborne coating systems and enhances flip-flop effect.
• It exhibits strongly shear thinning flow behavior, which makes it ideal for spray applications.
• It is easily dispersed by high-speed stirring without grinding.
• It is used in automotive coatings and metallic paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 1.0-6.0% as delivery form based on total formulation.
• THIXATROL® P2100W has a shelf life of 2 years.

THIXATROL® P220X by Elementis is a special polyamide-based rheology modifier which builds up a strong structure in almost all solvent-based systems such as paints, inks. It is an anti-sagging and anti-settling agent that increases viscosity and imparts stronger thixotropic properties than conventional additives.

• It can be easily dispersed by high speed dissolver.
• It specially affects aluminum paste, MIO, red lead, zinc-dust and anti-corrosive pigment.
• Prevents the settlement of pigment and hard caking.
• It is trouble free from seeding, gloss reduction and inter-coat adhesion.
• It shows stability on sagging (strong anti-sagging effect is suitable for high build coatings).
• It is used in architectural, marine paints and heavy duty coatings.
• Recommended dosage level is 1.0-5.0% based on the total formulation (by weight).
• THIXATROL® P220X has a shelf life of 2 years.
