Photoinitiators for Coatings and Inks

EBECRYL® 7100 by allnex is an acrylate-functional amine resin generally used as as a hydrogen donor or photo-activator. When used in formulations with a photoabstraction type photo-initiator (e.g. benzophenone), it has an accelerating effect on the UV cure speed. It is characterized by low viscosity, light color, improved stability and excellent pigment wetting. It offers lower residual odor, improved moisture resistance and high gloss. It also promotes adhesion to plastic substrates such as polyester, ABS, polycarbonate and polypropylene oxide. EBECRYL® 7100 is recommended for coatings for plastics, clear coatings for paper, overprint varnishes, screen ink vehicles, metal decorating inks, wood fillers and accelerating UV cure response.

Esacure KIP 75 LT distributed by DKSH acts as a photoinitiator. It is a liquid mixture of Esacure KIP 150 (75%) and tripropyleneglycoldiacrylate (25%). It is an oligomeric polyfunctional a-hydroxyketone characterized by high reactivity and non-yellowing properties.

• It is particularly recommended when low odor is a required characteristic.
• It is designed for clear, water-based and pigmented systems.
• It is used in graphic arts (OPV and printing inks), coatings for wood, plastic, paper, metal and adhesives.
• Recommended dosage level is 1-8% by weight and depends on system composition, thickness, and desired cure speed.
• Esacure KIP 75 LT has a shelf life of 8 months and is available in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and France.

TR-BENZOIN distributed by DKSH is a regular free radical photoinitiator. It is used for removing pinholes in powder coating. It can also be used for defoaming of powder coatings.

• It can be used in UV pigmented coatings for wood, metal, plastics, powder coatings, intermediate of organic pigment.

Luna-cure 907 distributed by DKSH is a photoinitiator. It is used in UV applications in lithographic inks, silkscreen inks, flexo inks, plastic coatings and overprint varnishes. Luna-cure 907 is available in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore & USA.

Chemark® PI-4265 distributed by DKSH is a photoinitiator. It is made from a unique blend of advanced polymers and additives. It ensures superior adhesion, resistance and longevity.

Chemark® 1289DW distributed by DKSH is a photoinitiator for waterborne UV curing system. It exhibits favorable stability and compatibility with aqueous solution systems.

• A small amount of Chemark® 1289DW provides excellent curing effects on both white and colored screen printing inks and coating systems, while also offering excellent anti-yellowing properties.
• It can be applied to thick coating systems and daylight curing system.
• It is suitable for clear coatings on wood, metal, plastic, and paper, as well as pigmented coatings for these surfaces.
• Additionally, it is used in polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) and acrylic dispersions.

ADDITOL® HDMAP by allnex is a general purpose radical photoinitiator that can be used alone or in combination with other photoinitiators. It is used in formulations containing unsaturated materials such as acrylates, methacrylates, vinyls and unsaturated polyesters. With exposure to UV light, ADDITOL® HDMAP undergoes a photochemical reaction that generates radicals. These radicals will initiate polymerization through the unsaturated groups present in the system. It possesses low viscosity and good solvency. This grade is characterized by balanced surface, through cure and good shelf stability in UV curable formulated products. Applications include clear-coats for metal & plastics, wood top-coats, overprint varnishes, paper upgrading, inks and pigmented coatings. The recommended usage level is 1-5% by weight based on the reactive components of the formulation.

Chemark® 1273 distributed by DKSH is a liquid-type non-yellowing photoinitiator. It provides good solvency proprieties making it ideal for making photoinitiator blends. It is used in coating on wood, metal and plastic as well as UV radiation curing systems.

• It is suitable for printing ink, overprint vanishes and wood lacquers.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.5-5% w/w.
• Chemark® 1273 is available in Canada.

ADDITOL® TPO by allnex is a radical photoinitiator that can be used alone or in combination with other photoinitiators. It is used in formulations containing unsaturated materials such as acrylates, methacrylates, vinyls and polyesters. With exposure to UV light, ADDITOL® TPO undergoes a photochemical reaction that generates radicals. These radicals will initiate polymerization through the unsaturated groups present in the system. It is suited for the UV curing of white pigmented formulations and thick clear coatings. Recommended for screen inks and white flexographic- & offset inks. It is typically used at levels of 0.5-2% by weight based on the reactive components of the formulation.
