Anti-skinning Agents for Coatings and Inks

Borchi® Nox 614 by Borchers (Milliken) is a phenolic antioxidant. It also acts as an anti-skinning agent and flow promoter. It is a 40% solution of a phenolic modified resin in xylene and methoxy propanol. It is suitable for air-drying and stove-drying systems, colorless as well as pigmented coatings based on air-drying oils and alkyd resins.

• It promotes through-drying, enhances the gloss and has anti-wrinkle properties.
• Borchi® Nox 614 is fully compatible with solvent-, oil-based and high-solids paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 2-4% by weight.

Borchi® Nox 1640 by Borchers (Milliken) is a special solvent-free anti-skinning agent for coatings and printing inks. It is easy to incorporate and can be used in various binders.

• It is designed for paints based on raw linseed oil, wood oil, maleic and alkyd resins.
• It does not cause discoloration and does not adversely affect the drying time of the paint system or give rise to undesirable secondary phenomena during the drying process.
• The recommended dosage level of Borchi® Nox 1640 is 0.2-1.5%.

Borchi® Nox M 2 by Borchers (Milliken) is a synthetic organic anti-skinning agent for binders containing oil. It delays the onset of drying of clear lacquers without affecting through-drying. It prolongs the open time of the film, thereby preventing flow problems and blistering.

• It does not cause yellowing or discoloration and exhibits no undesirable reactivity in finished paint systems.
• It is recommended for use in air and stove-drying lacquers, pigmented paints based on drying oils, epoxy resins, alkyd resins and other refined drying oils.
• The dosage level of Borchi® Nox M 2 is 30% for pigmented paints.

Borchi® Nox C3 by Borchers (Milliken) is an anti-skinning agent specially designed for printing inks. It enhances the gloss and flow properties of air-drying systems. It is readily soluble and easy to incorporate. It does not cause any discoloration or affect the drying time.

• It does not give rise to undesirable secondary phenomena during the drying process.
• It is recommended for use in paints based on raw linseed oil, wood oil, maleic and alkyd resins and other comparable binders.
• The dosage level of Borchi® Nox C3 is 0.1-0.4%, relative to the total formulation.

ADDITOL® XL 109/50LG by allnex is a specific antioxidizing agent for oxidizing paint systems and inhibits or retards the crosslinking reactions initiated by air oxygen in the surface of paint films. It acts as anti-skinning agent and impairs too quick drying of the surface. ADDITOL® XL 109/50LG offers enhanced gloss, through-drying, leveling and film hardness. It is suitable for paints on oil and alkyd resins. Recommended dosage level (on solid resin oil or alkyd) may range between 0.1-2% depending on the type of defect. It has a shelf life of 730 days at storage temperature upto 25°C.

Ascinin® Anti Skin 1240 by Borchers (Milliken) is MEKO-free anti-skinning agent. It is suitable for oxidatively drying coating systems and pastes with reduced VOC content. It controls surface dry retardation and keeps the film open longer to ensure deeper penetration of oxygen to lower film layers which promotes through dry and improves flow properties.

• It improves storage stability and eliminates excessive dry time retardation with phenolics or the toxicity of oximic compounds.
• Ascinin® Anti Skin 1240 is used in printing inks, clear or pigmented systems, solvent-based-, solvent-free oxidatively drying-, high solids paints, and environmentally friendly coatings.
• The recommended dosage based on alkyds are approx. 0.2-0.8% by weight on total formulation.

Ascinin® Anti Skin 0444 by Borchers (Milliken) is a phenol- and MEKO-free anti-skinning agent for oxidatively cured low VOC coating systems and pigment pastes. It is recommended to be used with Borchi® OXY-Coat cobalt replacement additives in solvent-based systems.

• It controls surface dry retardation and keeps the film open longer to ensure deeper penetration of oxygen to lower film layers, which promotes through dry and improves flow properties.
• It improves the storage stability as well as eliminates excessive dry time retardation with phenolics or the toxicity of oximic compounds.
• Ascinin® Anti Skin 0444 is used in printing inks, clear or pigmented systems, high solids oxidatively cured coating systems and environmental-friendly coatings.

Borchi® Guard T by Borchers (Milliken) is a MEKO and oxime-free anti-skinning agent. It is suitable for high solid, oxidatively cured solvent-based coating systems and pigment pastes. It improves flow and leveling properties. It is efficient at low dosages and achieves excellent dry times across a variety of primary driers and maintains excellent storage stability with minimal loss of dry.

• It controls surface‑dry retardation and keeps the film open longer, allowing deeper oxygen penetration into lower film layers.
• It is used in printing inks, and pigment pastes and preventing skin formation on the surface while the material is still in the container.
• It is also used in architectural and industrial coatings.
• Recommended dosage level of Borchi® Guard T is 0.2-0.9% depending on the binder type and the amount of driers used.

Ascinin® Anti Skin 0445 by Borchers (Milliken) is a phenol- and MEKO-free anti-skinning agent for oxidatively cured coating systems. It improves the storage stability. It controls surface dry retardation and keeps the film open longer to ensure deeper penetration of oxygen to lower film layers, which promotes through dry and improves flow properties.

• It is recommended to be used with Borchi® OXY-Coat cobalt replacement additives in water- and solvent-based systems.
• Ascinin® Anti Skin 0445 eliminates excessive dry time retardation with phenolics or the toxicity of oximic compounds.
• It is used in printing inks, pigment pastes, polar formulations and clear or pigmented systems.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.6% by weight on total formulation.

Borchi® Shield by Borchers (Milliken) is a phenol- and MEKO-free anti-skinning agent. It is used with a high-performance Borchi® Dragon catalyst in solvent-based oxidatively cured coating systems and high solids alkyds. It is designed to work well in high solids, long oil resin systems.

• It improves the storage stability and keeps the film open longer to ensure deeper penetration of oxygen.
• It also works synergistically with Borchi® Dragon ligand technology to provide slower surface drying, allowing for proper oxidative through cure even with thicker films.
• It eliminates excessive dry time retardation with phenolics.
• Borchi® Shield finds applications in automotive-, industrial-, architectural-, wood-, protective- and marine coatings.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-1.5% by weight on total formulation.
