Dibutyl phthalate. Acts as a plasticizer. This ester is produced from the reaction of phthalic anhydride with n-butanol. It causes all the polymeric materials including PVC to soften. It does not cause chemical changes in polymers but provides required physical and mechanical changes. Exhibits electrical resistance and elasticity at low temperature.
