Tetrahydrofurfuryl Alcohol (THFA®) by Pennakem acts as a low cost, biodegradable solvent. It is water-miscible liquid having very low odor. Tetrahydrofurfuryl Alcohol (THFA®) has low vapor pressure/low evaporation rate, high solvency for active ingredients, low freezing point, low viscosity even at reduced temperatures, excellent penetration ability and low phytotoxicity.
Ethyltetrahydrofurfuryl ether (ETE) by Pennakem acts as a strong aprotic polar solvent with limited miscibility with water. ETE is a bidentate coordinating ether that dramatically affects organolithium structures and reactivities. It is especially useful in controlling the structure of polymers produced from anionic polymerization of dienes (butadiene, isoprene), styrene-diene copolymers, hydrogenated styrene-butadiene block copolymers and liquid polybutadienes. In these systems, Ethyltetrahydrofurfuryl ether (ETE) is used as a modifier for the organolithium catalyst to increase the level of 1,2-microsturcture (vinyl structure) in the polyene. It is a colorless liquid with an ether like odor.
Furfuryl alcohol. Acts as an intermediate. It is used in large quantities to make sand molds for metal casting. Contact with furfuryl alcohol should be avoided because of its toxic effects. Furfuryl alcohol is very unstable when contacted with even low levels of strong acids. Uncontrollable exothermic polymerizations can occur.
