About Carbios

Carbios, established in 2011, is a pioneering biotech company based in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The company is dedicated to reinventing the lifecycle of plastics through innovative enzyme-based solutions that bridge biology and materials science. Carbios engineers proprietary enzymes optimized for both enzymatic recycling (depolluting PET waste into monomers) and enzymatic biodegradation (enabling PLA to fully compost even under home conditions). Their groundbreaking PET depolymerization process addresses the limitations of conventional mechanical recycling by enabling 100% recycled PET with maintained quality and supporting circularity across plastic types.

Evanesto®

Evanesto® by Carbios is an enzymated masterbatch that makes plant-based plastic compostable. It is innovative and eco-responsible alternative that allows to reach zero waste. Plastics containing it are assimilated to bio-waste and transformed into compost in less than 200 days. It is suitable for processing by methods such as extrusion, injection molding, calendaring or thermoforming. It is activated under composting conditions (humidity above 55%, temperature around 28°C, pH around 9).

It also facilitates and accelerates industrial composting and generates biogas in mechanization.

It reduces greenhouse gas emission and allows non-toxic biodegradation.

It is added at a rate of 2-5% to a compound with a high PLA level during traditional plastic transformation processes.

This additive is suitable for the production of all items containing PLA, particularly intended for single-use applications.

It is used in packaging, flexible films, disposable tableware, fruits and vegetable bags, pods, routing films, soft welding films and mulching films.

It is recommended dosage level is 5-10% for effective results.

It meets the requirements of materials suitable for food contact, in accordance with regulations No. 1935/2004 and No. 10/2011.

Evanesto® has shelf life of 1 year.
