Safety Profile
BHA is approved for cosmetic use at concentrations up to 0.04% in the EU, with similar limits applied globally. It carries a moderate EWG hazard rating (3-4), based on concerns related to potential endocrine disruption and animal carcinogenicity observed at high oral doses. However, topical use in tiny amounts shows low skin penetration and minimal irritation risk. It is non-sensitizing for most users, but avoided in natural/organic claims. Patch testing is advised.
