Coating ingredients for Waterborne Coatings

Parmetol® A 26 N distributed by DKSH acts as a preservative. It is a stabilized aqueous preparation based on chloromethyl-/methylisothiazolone (CMI/MI) and reaction product of ethylene glycol, urea and paraform. It has characteristic odor and contains only biodegradable components. It is suitable for a broad range of water-based formulations.

• It offers a broad and balanced spectrum of effects against bacteria, yeast and mold.
• It is suitable for use in textured coatings and plasters.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.10-0.20% and pH range is 3-9.5.
• Parmetol® A 26 N has a shelf life of 36 months and is available in Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Spain and Thailand.

PANGEL® S9 by Tolsa is a rheological additive for aqueous systems. It imparts excellent thixotropic and pseudoplastic properties, improving spreading and stability.

• It exhibits high absorption capacity and high degree of interaction with polymers.
• It controls system flow, ensuring optimum distribution of solvents, fillers and other components.
• At rest, it provides high consistency to the system, producing a suspending effect and a great resistance to sagging- & settling, avoiding sedimentation.
• Under a shear stress, it forces the viscosity to promptly fall down, easing manual and mechanical spreading & levelling.
• PANGEL® S9 is suitable for water-based paints and foundry coatings.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.05-2%.
• It has a shelf life of 2 years.

SYLOID® 7000 distributed by DKSH is a wax treated, synthetic amorphous silica with special organic treatment. It acts as a matting agent. It exhibits high porosity, high matting effect, ease of dispersion, excellent film clarity and film smoothness.

• It offers excellent optical properties in wet paint and dried coating film.
• It is suitable for use in high quality water-borne and solvent-borne coatings for furniture, artificial and natural leather, automotive plastic parts, foils, laminates, and UV-curable acrylate systems.
• SYLOID® 7000 has a shelf life of 12 months.
• It is available in Asia and Europe.

PANGEL® B20 by Tolsa is a powdered rheological additive with a high thickening and anti-settling capacity for intermediate polarity systems. It imparts thixotropy, suspension and sagging-resistance to systems based on aromatic and unsaturated polyester type solvents.

• It provides a strong pseudoplastic character, producing high consistency levels without affecting viscosity during application.
• It prevents settling of pigments & fillers in printing inks, paints and coatings.
• It controls sagging without aggravating levelling and offers high stability during transportation and storage.
• PANGEL® B20 is designed for asphalt coatings, decorative enamels, signaling, marine coatings, automobile priming, oven-cured enamels, paint strippers and water-soluble paints.
• It has a shelf life of 1 year.

ETERKYD 4901-B-72 distributed by DKSH is an adhesion promoter for industrial coatings. It is used mainly in baking paints and primers.

• It is formulated to meet air pollution regulations.
• It imparts excellent balance of hardness and flexibility.
• It produces high-gloss films with excellent color and color retention.
• ETERKYD 4901-B-72 is recommended for coil coatings, general industrial gloss bake enamels for spray, dip, or flow.
• It is suitable for high-solids, solvent-thinned coil coatings, can coatings and waterborne one-coat systems.
• This product is available in Canada and USA.

BENTONE® EW by Elementis acts as a rheological additive for water-borne paint systems. It is a highly beneficiated, easily dispersible powdered smectite clay. It provides thermostable aqueous phase viscosity control and thixotropy.

• It enhances texturing & stippling effects and improves workability/application.
• It is easy to use and does not impair throwing power in electrostatic systems.
• It offers fast water release, emulsion stabilization, and good stability in electrostatic coating baths.
• It prevents hard settlement of pigments/fillers, reduces syneresis and minimizes floating/flooding of pigments.
• BENTONE® EW is used in corrosion-inhibitive primers, latex paints, electrodeposition coatings, foundry paints, paper coatings and polishes & cleaners.
• Recommended usage level is 0.1-1%.
• It has a shelf life of 4 years.

Omyacoat 420 by Omya is an ultrafine, calcium carbonate-based, functional mineral filler. It is designed for solvent-based decorative paints, gloss powder coatings as well as industrial paints and coatings. It is based on UFGCC and ChameleoBoost™ technology. It boosts opacity and offers enhanced titanium dioxide performance through spacing effect and pigment stabilization. It shows very good dispersibility in water-based matt, semi-matt and semi-gloss paint systems. Omyacoat 420 provides gloss control, high brightness, reduced carbon footprint and optimized formulation cost.

Borchi® OXY-Coat by Borchers (Milliken) is a high concentration, low-VOC, cobalt-free drier and metal-based catalyst. It improves drying activity, color performance, gloss and haze compared to cobalt-based driers in water- and solvent-based systems. It is suitable for high solids, composites and can be applied in multiple coats. It is based on a unique, patented and highly active iron complex.

• It offers improved adhesion in direct to metal applications.
• It extends the coatings season window by providing consistent curing performance in all weather conditions (hot or cold, dry or humid) for short, medium and long oil alkyd systems.
• It provides improved stain- and chemical resistance and lower gardner color numbers and can prevent wrinkles at higher film builds.
• It can be used in coatings for adverse weather conditions.
• It is recommended for all solvent-based coatings containing binders or resins that dry by oxidation including vegetable oils, epoxy esters and polybutadiene.
• Applications include wood flooring, architectural-, protective and marine coating.
• It is APEO-free, REACH and Proposition 65 compliant.
• The recommended dosage level of Borchi® OXY-Coat is 0.5-3%.

Dispelair® CF 246 distributed by DKSH is a foam control agent and excellent defoamer for water-based coatings. It is effective over a wide range of pH values and temperatures, works efficiently at low concentrations, and helps improve process productivity.

• It is used in low gloss paints and paper coatings.
• A typical addition level is 0.1-0.5% in total depending on the severity of the foam problem.
• Dispelair® CF 246 has a shelf life of 1 year.
• It is available in Canada.

SERDAS DF 7005 distributed by DKSH is a silicone-free liquid defoamer. It offers very good long-term efficiency. It is composed of ultrafine dispersion of wax in mineral oil. It shows low emulsifiability in water.

• It is economical and suitable for universal waterborne applications.
• It is specially recommended for sensitive to surface defect systems.
• It is based on oil and wax components with a small addition of a special ester mixture.
• It exhibits excellent storage stability & best reproducibility and provides long-term effectiveness.
• It offers increased scrub resistance and decreased water sensitivity.
• Recommended dosage level of SERDAS DF 7005 is 0.2-0.6%.
• SERDAS DF 7005 is available in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Spain and Sweden.
