Coating ingredients for Waterborne Coatings

Non-ionic emulsion of a high melt polyethylene resin. Provides scuff, scratch and mar resistance. Offers increased tear and tensile strength.

Parmetol® A 26 N distributed by DKSH acts as a preservative. It is a stabilized aqueous preparation based on chloromethyl-/methylisothiazolone (CMI/MI) and reaction product of ethylene glycol, urea and paraform. It has characteristic odor and contains only biodegradable components. It is suitable for a broad range of water-based formulations.

• It offers a broad and balanced spectrum of effects against bacteria, yeast and mold.
• It is suitable for use in textured coatings and plasters.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.10-0.20% and pH range is 3-9.5.
• Parmetol® A 26 N has a shelf life of 36 months and is available in Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Spain and Thailand.

EPOCROS™ WS-700 by Nippon Shokubai is a VOC-free adhesion promoter and a waterborne crosslinker based on acrylic, high oxazoline functionalized reactive copolymer. The new crosslinking technology enhances the reactivity between oxazoline groups and carboxy groups through a heating and mixing process involving EPOCROS™ WS and a carboxy group-containing emulsion with a specific neutralization rate.

• It offers lower curing temperature, excellent storage stability, no peeling and long pot life for one packaging.
• It provides film properties, low toxicity, fast drying and improved water- & heat resistance.
• EPOCROS™ WS-700 allows crosslinking reaction at low temperature (80-120°C) and without any by-product.
• It exhibits high reactivity and performance expression with even small addition.
• It offers excellent adhesion to polyethylene terephthalate (PET), oriented polypropylene (OPP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
• Recommended for coatings (metals, films, paper, plastics, leather), primer (film, plastics, building materials, automobiles, PVB inks), paints, inks and pigment printing.
• It is registered with CSCA (Japan), TSCA (USA), REACH EU and IECSC (China) regulations.

Borchi® OXY-Coat by Borchers (Milliken) is a high concentration, low-VOC, cobalt-free drier and metal-based catalyst. It improves drying activity, color performance, gloss and haze compared to cobalt-based driers in water- and solvent-based systems. It is suitable for high solids, composites and can be applied in multiple coats. It is based on a unique, patented and highly active iron complex.

• It offers improved adhesion in direct to metal applications.
• It extends the coatings season window by providing consistent curing performance in all weather conditions (hot or cold, dry or humid) for short, medium and long oil alkyd systems.
• It provides improved stain- and chemical resistance and lower gardner color numbers and can prevent wrinkles at higher film builds.
• It can be used in coatings for adverse weather conditions.
• It is recommended for all solvent-based coatings containing binders or resins that dry by oxidation including vegetable oils, epoxy esters and polybutadiene.
• Applications include wood flooring, architectural-, protective and marine coating.
• It is APEO-free, REACH and Proposition 65 compliant.
• The recommended dosage level of Borchi® OXY-Coat is 0.5-3%.

Dispelair® CF 246 distributed by DKSH is a foam control agent and excellent defoamer for water-based coatings. It is effective over a wide range of pH values and temperatures, works efficiently at low concentrations, and helps improve process productivity.

• It is used in low gloss paints and paper coatings.
• A typical addition level is 0.1-0.5% in total depending on the severity of the foam problem.
• Dispelair® CF 246 has a shelf life of 1 year.
• It is available in Canada.

HALOX® 680 by ICL is a VOC-free, non-flammable, smart release anticorrosive pigment which releases a heterocyclic organic corrosion inhibitor from an organic matrix that adsorbs on the metal surface and forms a protective film. It offers decreased cathodic delamination (undercutting) and improves cut edge protection.

• It is jet milled grade that provides increased intercoat coating adhesion and prevents osmotic blistering. It reduces cost by lowering zinc phosphate loading.
• It acts synergistically with other corrosion inhibitors such as zinc phosphate, Z-PLEX 111, SZP-391, HALOX® 430 and Zn-free phosphates.
• It can be formulated into solvent-based, high solid-, and powder coatings.
• It is suitable for solvent-based primers & DTM alkyds, acrylics, water-based epoxies and urethanes, high solids and 100% solids, semi-gloss paints and coil coatings.
• The dosage level of HALOX® 680 as a stand-alone corrosion inhibitor or as an adhesion promoter is 1-2% based on total formula weight (TFW).
• When used in synergy with standard zinc phosphate the loading level of the product is typically 0.5-4% on total formula weight (TFW).

SYLOID® 7000 distributed by DKSH is a wax treated, synthetic amorphous silica with special organic treatment. It acts as a matting agent. It exhibits high porosity, high matting effect, ease of dispersion, excellent film clarity and film smoothness.

• It offers excellent optical properties in wet paint and dried coating film.
• It is suitable for use in high quality water-borne and solvent-borne coatings for furniture, artificial and natural leather, automotive plastic parts, foils, laminates, and UV-curable acrylate systems.
• SYLOID® 7000 has a shelf life of 12 months.
• It is available in Asia and Europe.

RHEOLATE® HX 6030 by Elementis is a non-ionic associative thickener (NiSAT) designed for waterborne systems. It is a VOC-, APEO-, and tin-free polyurethane solution offering high thickening efficiency without compromising application performance.

• It provides excellent sag resistance, flow and leveling due to its balanced Newtonian rheology profile, making it ideal for use in coatings ranging from low sheen to high gloss enamels.
• It can replace conventional medium to high shear rheology modifiers and is compatible with various resin chemistries.
• It can be used alone or in combination with other thickeners to optimize brush and roller application properties.
• It is a pourable and pumpable liquid, offering low odor and good storage stability.
• RHEOLATE® HX 6030 does not detract from gloss or wet adhesion and performs well across a broad pH range.
• It has stronger association in smaller particle size resin and is compatible with most water-based resin systems.
• It exhibits excellent compatibility with other associative rheological additives, clay-based thickeners, or cellulosic thickeners for desired rheology.
• It is suitable for use in water-based systems including premium zero- to low-VOC and conventional latex paints, inks and textile coatings.
• It has a shelf life of 24 months and recommended usage level is 1.5% to 2.5% on total paint weight.

Omyacoat 420 by Omya is an ultrafine, calcium carbonate-based, functional mineral filler. It is designed for solvent-based decorative paints, gloss powder coatings as well as industrial paints and coatings. It is based on UFGCC and ChameleoBoost™ technology. It boosts opacity and offers enhanced titanium dioxide performance through spacing effect and pigment stabilization. It shows very good dispersibility in water-based matt, semi-matt and semi-gloss paint systems. Omyacoat 420 provides gloss control, high brightness, reduced carbon footprint and optimized formulation cost.

Light Stabilizer 292 distributed by DKSH is a low molecular weight hindered amine light stabilizer. It has synergistic effect with ultraviolet absorbers.
