Coating ingredients for Solvent-Free / High-Solids Coatings

HALOX® 680 by ICL is a VOC-free, non-flammable, smart release anticorrosive pigment which releases a heterocyclic organic corrosion inhibitor from an organic matrix that adsorbs on the metal surface and forms a protective film. It offers decreased cathodic delamination (undercutting) and improves cut edge protection.

• It is jet milled grade that provides increased intercoat coating adhesion and prevents osmotic blistering. It reduces cost by lowering zinc phosphate loading.
• It acts synergistically with other corrosion inhibitors such as zinc phosphate, Z-PLEX 111, SZP-391, HALOX® 430 and Zn-free phosphates.
• It can be formulated into solvent-based, high solid-, and powder coatings.
• It is suitable for solvent-based primers & DTM alkyds, acrylics, water-based epoxies and urethanes, high solids and 100% solids, semi-gloss paints and coil coatings.
• The dosage level of HALOX® 680 as a stand-alone corrosion inhibitor or as an adhesion promoter is 1-2% based on total formula weight (TFW).
• When used in synergy with standard zinc phosphate the loading level of the product is typically 0.5-4% on total formula weight (TFW).

Borchi® OXY-Coat by Borchers (Milliken) is a high concentration, low-VOC, cobalt-free drier and metal-based catalyst. It improves drying activity, color performance, gloss and haze compared to cobalt-based driers in water- and solvent-based systems. It is suitable for high solids, composites and can be applied in multiple coats. It is based on a unique, patented and highly active iron complex.

• It offers improved adhesion in direct to metal applications.
• It extends the coatings season window by providing consistent curing performance in all weather conditions (hot or cold, dry or humid) for short, medium and long oil alkyd systems.
• It provides improved stain- and chemical resistance and lower gardner color numbers and can prevent wrinkles at higher film builds.
• It can be used in coatings for adverse weather conditions.
• It is recommended for all solvent-based coatings containing binders or resins that dry by oxidation including vegetable oils, epoxy esters and polybutadiene.
• Applications include wood flooring, architectural-, protective and marine coating.
• It is APEO-free, REACH and Proposition 65 compliant.
• The recommended dosage level of Borchi® OXY-Coat is 0.5-3%.

Borchi® Gol 0011 by Borchers (Milliken) is a 100% active, modified polysiloxane flow and air release agent for solvent-based and solvent-free coatings systems. It can reduce pigment floating and provides barrier properties to the cured film.

• It is suitable for high-build systems and can be used in combination with Borchi® Gol E2 in epoxies for enhanced flow and deaeration.
• It improves the surface properties of coatings and destroys air bubbles formed in the film during application.
• Borchi® Gol 0011 can be used in conjunction with suitable moisture scavengers to reduce the formation of carbon dioxide bubbles in polyurethane coatings.
• It is effective with all types of coating application methods.
• It is recommended for industrial flooring-, pipe- & storage tank coatings.
• The dosage is 0.5-3.0% of the total weight of the formulation depending upon the binder system and which property is being addressed.

HALOX® 580 by ICL is a low-VOC, bio-based liquid corrosion inhibitor. It is cost-effective and provides improved adhesion, water resistance with synergistic benefits. It is non-flammable and shows good shelf stability.

• It offers minimal gloss impact and is perfect for eco-label compliant coatings.
• It is sustainable, clean labeled, heavy metal-free, APEO-free, HAPS-free and non-hazardous for shipping and transportation.
• It can be easily post added or added in the letdown stage.
• It is suitable for thin-film coatings, acrylic emulsions, epoxies, water reducible alkyds, polyurethanes, alkyds and urethane alkyds.
• HALOX® 580 is used for protection of waterborne clear coats, solvent-based, high solids, 100% solids paints, primer and direct-to-metal (DTM) coatings.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.5-3.0% based on total formula weight.

EBECRYL® 168 by allnex is acidic methacrylate-based adhesion promoter. EBECRYL® 168 is characterized by improved compatibility, light color, low viscosity and acid functionality. It may be applied via direct or reverse roll, offset gravure, metering rod, slot die, knife over roll, air knife, curtain and immersion coating methods. It is designed for ultraviolet and electron beam curable coatings on metal. The typical usage level is between 1-5% by weight of the total formulation. Recommended for use in general metal coatings & primers, coatings for galvanized pipes & tubes. Also used in coil coatings. The shelf life of the grade is 2 years.

Chroma-chem® 754-1020 distributed by DKSH is a white color pigment dispersion. It consists of organic and inorganic pigments milled in a 100% solids epoxy. The bis-A epoxy resin has an EEW value of 185 to 192. It is stabilized through a proprietary additive package to ensure excellent color control.

• It uses pigments with excellent lightfastness that provides excellent exterior durability.
• It is compatible with solvent-containing and solvent-free 2K epoxy coatings.
• It utilizes epoxy mass tones to produce an efficient method for in-plant tinting or tinting at the job site.
• It is designed to provide an effective way to tint most epoxy coatings, especially concrete protective floor coatings.
• It is formulated for interior applications.
• Chroma-chem® 754-1020 is used in many industrial coatings, high build terrazzo flooring, industrial maintenance paints, and other high-performance protective coatings.

Borchi® Nox 614 by Borchers (Milliken) is a phenolic antioxidant. It also acts as an anti-skinning agent and flow promoter. It is a 40% solution of a phenolic modified resin in xylene and methoxy propanol. It is suitable for air-drying and stove-drying systems, colorless as well as pigmented coatings based on air-drying oils and alkyd resins.

• It promotes through-drying, enhances the gloss and has anti-wrinkle properties.
• Borchi® Nox 614 is fully compatible with solvent-, oil-based and high-solids paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 2-4% by weight.

SYLOID® ED 80 distributed by DKSH acts as a high porosity matting agent. It is an easily dispersible, synthetic amorphous silica with an organic surface treatment. It exhibits a high matting efficiency and a favorable gloss/sheen ratio.

• It is used in high solid systems, thick-film applications and camouflage paints.
• SYLOID® ED 80 has a shelf life of 12 months.
• It is available in Europe.
