Coating ingredients for Solvent-based Inks

SETAL® 270 EHV WS-70 by allnex is an air drying long oil alkyd resin based on soyabean oils. Exhibits good color fastness, brushability, body and flow, good durability and good through hardening. Market applications of SETAL® 270 EHV WS-70 include architectural paints (finishes on wood and metal), for interior and exterior use, do-it-yourself paints, semi-gloss finishes, alkyd resin varnishes, wall paints. It is also used in boat & yacht coatings, structural steel paints and marine paints.

SETAL® 270 WS-70 by allnex is soyabean oil-based, air drying long oil alkyd resin. Offers low odor, good durability, good color fastness, brushability and flowability. SETAL® 270 WS-70 is used in architectural paints such as finishes on wood and metal, for interior and exterior use, do-it-yourself paints, semi-gloss finishes and wall paints. It is suitable for use in alkyd resin varnishes, boat and yacht coatings, structural steel paints and marine paints.

Borchi® OXY-Coat 1410 by Borchers (Milliken) is a high-performance cobalt-free drier and catalyst with high concentration and low VOC. It is suitable for high solids alkyd-based coatings. It is based on a unique, patented, highly active, organometallic iron complex.

• It exhibits improved drying activity, color performance, gloss and haze compared to cobalt-based driers.
• It has the ability to be used in adverse conditions.
• It is used in all solvent-based coatings containing binders or resins that dry by oxidation including alkyds, vegetable oils, epoxy esters and polybutadiene.
• Borchi® OXY-Coat 1410 is ideal for use in wood, industrial and architectural coatings as well as in printing inks.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.05-3%.

Tallicin® K-9 by Pflaumer Brothers is a polymeric dispersant with multiple anchor groups that can be used to disperse inorganic and organic pigments. It improves pigment wetting, color development and storage stability. It is used in solvent-based coatings, industrial maintenance coatings, offset inks and powder coatings.

• It is effective in reducing viscosity for dispersions of both oxidized and non-oxidized carbon black.
• It allows the formulator to increase the pigment loading in the mill base, thus improving both efficiency and cost of production.
• Recommended dosage level is 2 and 20% based upon pigment weight if the surface area of the pigment is unknown.

SETALUX® 27-1316 by allnex is a low-VOC acrylic polyol resin. When combined with aliphatic poly-isocyanates, it provides ease of coating application, good adhesion, flexibility and excellent water resistance. It offers good application properties and distinctness of image (DOI). SETALUX® 27-1316 is used in varnishes & clearcoats for wet-on-wet systems, topcoats for steel and high-gloss one-coat finishes for industrial applications. The shelf life is 3 years at temperature up to 100°F.

Tallicin® K-8 by Pflaumer Brothers acts as a dispersing agent. It helps produce a high gloss effect as it eliminates bubbles and craters seen in dip tank applications. it is used to disperse inorganic and organic pigments in a variety of systems such as solvent-based coatings, inks, powder coatings.

NUOSPERSE® FA 196 by Elementis is an anionic, highly concentrated liquid pigment dispersing agent for carbon black and organic pigment. It is suitable for thermoplastic acrylic systems and as an auxiliary product to improve the action of universal tinting pastes in basic alkyd paints.

• It offers strong adsorption on a wide range of pigment surfaces, improves color development, gives good and fast dispersion, reduces rub-up and color float, improves compatibility of universal colorants.
• It enables the replacement of various more specific dispersants with just one product.
• NUOSPERSE® FA 196 is used for organic solvent-borne paint and ink systems including oxidatively drying systems and thermoplastic systems.
• It has a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture.
• The recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.4% calculated on the total quantity of alkyd paint.

Borchi® OXY-Coat 1310 by Borchers (Milliken) is a metal-based, cobalt-free, curing additive and catalyst. It is based on a unique, patented, highly active iron complex. It improves drying activity, color performance, gloss and haze compared to cobalt-based driers.

• It is designed for thixotropic solvent-based coatings with resins that dry by oxidation including alkyds, vegetable oils, epoxy esters and polybutadiene.
• It provides improved stain- and chemical resistance, lower gardner color numbers and faster dry times and can prevent wrinkles at higher film builds.
• It has the ability to be used in adverse conditions.
• It is suitable for use in solvent-based architectural, wood, and industrial coating applications, as well as printing inks.
• The recommended dosage level of Borchi® OXY-Coat 1310 is 0.5-3%.
• It complies with EU-REACH, ECL, EINECS, TSCA and NECI.

A-C® 6A distributed by DKSH is a low density polyethylene (LDPE) homopolymer. It improves surface properties such as rub, mar and abrasion resistance, by lowering the coefficient of friction.

• It is suitable for use in solvent borne coatings, heat-set and liquid solvent-borne inks.
• A-C® 6A is available in Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and Philippines.

SETAL® 11-1113 by allnex is a non-HAPs, short oil, non-oxidizing coconut alkyd resin. Offers good lacquer hardness development for optimum print resistance, good flow and film clarity. SETAL® 11-1113 is designed for use in non-lifting cellulose nitrate lacquers, conversion & acid cure varnishes and baking enamels. Used in coatings formulas requiring lower amounts of Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP) solvents. It has a shelf life of 1 year at 100°F.
