Tin (II) chloride by William Blythe is a catalyst and reducing agent used in the mirror coating industry. It is applicable in a wide range of applications, where its reducing nature or role as a source of Sn2+ ions is important. Its reducing properties are used in combination with catalysts for sensitizing nonconductive surfaces prior to electroless metal plating. Tin (II) chloride is also suitable for the manufacture of tin derivatives (e.g. stannous octoate); for formulating into metal plating solutions and as a flux in metal bonding systems.
