agpure® W50 by RAS Materials is a water soluble dispersion of about 50 %wt colloidal silver. This dispersion can be added to polymer chips for producing an antimicrobial masterbatch or compound. It contains silver particles of about 15 nm size with a narrow size distribution of 99% of the particle number concentration exhibiting a diameter of below 20 nm. Acts as a biocide showing strong activity against all gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, antibiotic-resistant strains, yeast and fungi. Offers long-term preservation against staining, reduction of germ adherence, disturbance of the germs, K+-metabolism, irreversible reaction with S-containing amino acids and slow marginal Ag+- release. Exhibits UV stability, negative zeta potential, excellent leach resistance and cleaning/washing resistance. It helps in avoiding cytotoxicity, adverse odors and the spread of diseases including nosocomial infections caused by MRSA. Is not a sterilizing agent and does not have long range effects. Can be processed at high temperatures (more than 300°C). It is brown in color, easy to use, free of any fillers, miscible in water and insoluble in solvents, salts or solids (leads to agglomeration). agpure® W50 can be mixed with the pigment paste and subsequently incorporated or simply combined with the dispersion. Suitable for use in varnishes and coatings over monomer resins. Applications include medical devices. Recommended dosage ranges between 100 and 2000 ppm.
