Anti-corrosive pigment. It is yellow in color. Primers based on zinc yellow are used as first coats in any anti-corrosive painting system. It does not bleed in solvents or oils but has a slight but significant solubility in water. This slight solubility in water contributes to its ability to inhibit corrosion on account of liberation of chromate ions. Also, its zinc oxide component makes it basic in character, which further contributes to corrosion inhibition by reaction with acidic materials in the film. Low solubility type relatively free from soluble chlorides and sulphates is intended for use in the metal primers.
