Freeze-thaw Controllers for Coatings and Inks

TERGITOL™ XDLW by Dow is a non-ionic alkyl EO/PO copolymer-based surfactant, freeze-thaw controller, dispersing agent and emulsifier. It provides excellent stabilizer and dispersant performance for aqueous systems. It is used in conjunction with other surfactants to provide stability and freeze-thaw resistance to emulsions, dispersions, and emulsion polymer systems. It can also provide lubricity for fibers and solubilization of iodine for germicidal cleaners. TERGITOL™ XDLW applications include carbon black & pigment dispersions, iodophors, emulsion polymerization, paints & coatings.

TERGITOL™ 15-S-40 by Dow acts as a non-ionic surfactant, freeze-thaw controller, dispersing agent, emulsifier. It is a versatile, high-performance secondary alcohol ethoxylate (SAE).

• It offers freeze-thaw and ionic stability and good handling properties.
• It is not alkyl phenol ethoxylate-based.
• It provides an unbeatable combination of performance and cost when used in place of primary alcohol ethoxylates (PAE), nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE), octyl phenol ethoxylates (OPE), and other general-purpose surfactants in a wide range of formulating applications.
• TERGITOL™ 15-S-40 is used in paint and coatings, floor polish, and wax emulsions.

[product} by Soy Technologies acts as a freeze thaw controller, coalescing agent and plasticizer. It improves flow, leveling and dispersion characteristics. It increases open times and is efficient & cost effective. It is compatible most latex, acrylic and urethane emulsion systems. Soyanol™ 1000E is used in water-based paints or stains. The recommended dosage is 2%-7%. It complies with USDA BioPreferred and US EPA design for environment.

Rhodoline® FT 100 by Syensqo is a proprietary blend. Acts as a freeze-thaw controller. Improves the gloss and pigment dispersion. Rhodoline® FT 100 can also be used in water-borne paint at a concentration of 4 to 12 pounds per 100 gallon.

Rhodoline® FT 100E by Syensqo is a distinctive, APE free and solvent free additive. It can be formulated in water borne coatings at 0.4-1.2% (by weight). It offers excellent freeze-thaw stability for low & zero VOC waterborne paints. It can be utilized in various formulations from low to high gloss coating applications. It significantly improves freeze-thaw stability of all acrylic copolymers, vinyl acetate/acrylic copolymer, styrene-acrylic copolymer, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer and paint systems. Recommended dosage level is 1.0-3.0% on weight. Rhodoline® FT 100E can be used in ecolabel paints. VOC & SVOC are measured by using ISO 11890-2 test method.

Rhodoline® FT 100Xtrim by Syensqo is a low odor, alkyl phenol ethoxylate (APE)-free, VOC and solvent-free grade. Acts as a freeze-thaw stabilizer and wetting agent. Compatible with acrylic, vinyl/ acrylic, styrene/ acrylic and EVA resins. Possesses good color acceptance and increased open time. Improve gloss, organic pigment dispersion and stain resistance. Rhodoline® FT 100Xtrim is designed for waterborne paints formulated with low Tg latex binders. Complies with Ecolabel regulation. Recommended dosage level is 1%.

Esterified polymer of low molecular weight. Acts as a freeze / thaw stabilizer. Also has a deflocculation action, which improves color development in dyed formulations.

OXFILM® 351 by OXEA acts as a coalescent agent, anti-blocking, scrub & stain resistance agent and a free-thaw controller. It has low odor and almost zero VOC. Also acts as a permanent plasticizer yielding a slightly softer film. To compensate a slightly harder, higher Tg, resin is required to obtain the desired final film hardness. In the presence of sufficient binder, it has a positive effect on scrub resistance. OXFILM® 351 is recommended for paints, semi-gloss coatings and high-gloss coatings.
