Coating ingredients for Automotive Refinish Coatings

SETALUX® 57-1587 by allnex is a hydroxyl-functional acrylic resin for 2K applications. It offers fast cure, long pot-life and low VOC formulation potential (2.1-3.5 lb/gal). It provides very good exterior durability, UV- and chemical resistance, and excellent overall performance properties.

• It is designed for topcoats, primers and single coat enamels for vehicle refinish and industrial applications.
• SETALUX® 57-1587 is a modifier for both acrylic and polyester urethane systems.
• It is suitable for maintenance-, marine-, metal- and plastic coatings.
• It has a shelf life of 3 years at temperatures up to 100°F.

SETALUX® 17-1611 by allnex is hydroxy functional acrylic resin designed for use with aliphatic isocyanate resins in two-component systems. These systems produce ambient curing high performance coatings. Laboratory testing indicates excellent resistance to salt spray, water soak and humidity. Based on accelerated weathering tests, it has excellent exterior durability.

• It provides good flexibility and chemical resistance properties.
• It is suitable for industrial high performance coatings for wood, metal or plastics and fast drying industrial primers and topcoats.
• Recommended for topcoats for transportation, chemical maintenance or construction equipment and spot repair clearcoats for car refinishes.
• SETALUX® 17-1611 has a shelf life of 3 years.

SETALUX® 57-1612 by allnex is a hydroxyl-functional acrylic resin for 2K applications. It offers fast cure, long pot-life and low VOC formulation potential. It provides very good exterior durability, UV- and chemical resistance, and excellent overall performance properties.

Bentone® 38 by Elementis is a highly efficient rheological modifier designed for use in low to intermediate polarity organic systems. It is an organic derivative of a hectorite clay.

• It increases viscosity, controls sagging on vertical surfaces, and penetration on porous substrates.
• It improves flow and leveling, prevents pigment settling during storage and syneresis in thixotropic systems.
• It is suitable for aerosol paints, anti-corrosive paints, automotive finishes and primers, coil coating systems, industrial paints, trichloroethylene dip coatings, and wood stains.
• It is used in interior and exterior house paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.5% for house and industrial paints.
• Bentone® 38 has a shelf life of 4 years.

SETALUX® 1215 BA-68 by allnex is an acrylic polyol with 4.5% hydroxyl value (calculated on non-volatiles). It is suitable for the manufacture of air-drying and forced drying two component lacquer systems with good exterior durability, good build and gloss. It exhibits high end hardness and excellent chemical resistance. SETALUX® 1215 BA-68 is used in industrial topcoats, clearcoats and solid color lacquer systems for vehicle refinishing and commercial vehicles.

SETALUX® D A 1060 BA by allnex is polyisocyanate cross-linking acrylic resin. It is suitable for use in the two-component polyurethane coatings providing good gloss retention, light-fastness and chalking resistance. It provides improved outdoor durability and faster cycle time. It is used in the formulation of air-drying and stoving automotive refinish and industrial metal coatings. SETALUX® D A 1060 BA has a shelf life of 730 days.

Bentone® 34 by Elementis acts as a rheological additive designed for low to intermediate polarity organic systems. It is an organic derivative of a bentonite clay. It prevents pigment settling during storage and syneresis in thixotropic systems.

• It improves flow and leveling and controls sagging on vertical surfaces and penetration on porous substrates.
• It increases viscosity and provides thixotropy.
• It is used for anti-corrosive paints, automotive finishes, coil coating systems, dip coatings and industrial finishes.
• Also used in interior and exterior house paints including do-it-yourself paints, paint stripper pastes, printing inks, refinishes for household appliances and road marking paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.5% for house and industrial paints, 0.5-1% for primer and 0.2-0.3 for aqueous systems.
• Bentone® 34 has a shelf life of 4 years.

SETALUX® 1276 SS-60 by allnex is a fast cure acrylic polyol with 2.7% hydroxyl value (calculated on non-volatiles). Hardness development and chemical resistance are very fast and is ready to buff in 30 minutes. It is suitable for clearcoat for two component vehicles refinish and transport. In addition, SETALUX® 1276 SS-60 contributes excellent application properties, excellent gloss and DOI. The shelf life is 12 months.

SETALUX® 10-1440 by allnex is a higher percent active ketimine modified acrylic resin for use in the isocyanate-free 3.5 VOC Ketac primer system. Exhibits extremely fast air dry, good low toxicity properties and excellent adhesion to metal, plastic, aluminum, galvanized steel & wood substrates. It is used in combination with SETALUX® 17-1450 or other acetoacetate functional acrylic or polyester resin. Applications of Setalux 10-1440 include non-isocyanate car refinish & fleet primer applications, non-isocyanate primers for plastics and industrial primer systems for metal. It has a shelf life of 1 year at temperatures upto 100°F.

SETALUX® 1906 BA-75 by allnex is an acrylic polyol with 4.0% hydroxyl value (calculated on non-volatiles). SETALUX® 1906 BA-75 possesses fast drying, high build, gloss, excellent mechanical properties and good outdoor durability. It is suitable for industrial high solid stoving topcoat and clearcoat. Recommended for forced drying coatings for ACE, commercial transport and vehicle refinish.
