Coating ingredients for Automotive Refinish Coatings

Bentone® 38 by Elementis is a highly efficient rheological modifier designed for use in low to intermediate polarity organic systems. It is an organic derivative of a hectorite clay.

• It increases viscosity, controls sagging on vertical surfaces, and penetration on porous substrates.
• It improves flow and leveling, prevents pigment settling during storage and syneresis in thixotropic systems.
• It is suitable for aerosol paints, anti-corrosive paints, automotive finishes and primers, coil coating systems, industrial paints, trichloroethylene dip coatings, and wood stains.
• It is used in interior and exterior house paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.5% for house and industrial paints.
• Bentone® 38 has a shelf life of 4 years.

WANNATE® HB-75MX by Wanhua Chemical is an aliphatic biuret polyisocyanate based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and dissolved in 25% of 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate (MPA) and xylene (1:1). It exhibits high chemical- and weathering resistance, very good gloss retention and outstanding mechanical properties. It can be mixed with aliphatic- and aromatic polyisocyanates, polyester polyols and polyacrylates.

• It can be used as the hardener component for lightfast two-component polyurethane coatings.
• WANNATE® HB-75MX is suitable for automotive refinishing, transportation, industrial finishing and plastic coatings.

Bentone® 34 by Elementis acts as a rheological additive designed for low to intermediate polarity organic systems. It is an organic derivative of a bentonite clay. It prevents pigment settling during storage and syneresis in thixotropic systems.

• It improves flow and leveling and controls sagging on vertical surfaces and penetration on porous substrates.
• It increases viscosity and provides thixotropy.
• It is used for anti-corrosive paints, automotive finishes, coil coating systems, dip coatings and industrial finishes.
• Also used in interior and exterior house paints including do-it-yourself paints, paint stripper pastes, printing inks, refinishes for household appliances and road marking paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-0.5% for house and industrial paints, 0.5-1% for primer and 0.2-0.3 for aqueous systems.
• Bentone® 34 has a shelf life of 4 years.

WANNATE® HT-100 by Wanhua Chemical is a solvent-free, aliphatic polyisocyanate based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). It can be used as the hardener component for lightfast two-component polyurethane coatings. It offers high resistance to chemicals and weathering, very good gloss retention and outstanding mechanical properties.

• WANNATE® HT-100 is suitable for automotive refinishing, transportation, industrial finishing and plastic coatings.
• It can be mixed with aliphatic- and aromatic polyisocyanates, polyester polyols and polyacrylates.

WANNATE® HT-100plus by Wanhua Chemical is a solvent-free aliphatic polyisocyanate based on 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). It can be used as a hardener component for lightfast two-component polyurethane coatings. It exhibits high resistance to chemicals and weathering. It is colorless to slightly yellow liquid.

• It offers very good gloss retention and outstanding mechanical properties.
• It can be mixed with aliphatic- and aromatic polyisocyanates, polyester polyols and polyacrylates.
• WANNATE® HT-100plus is suitable for automotive refinishing, transportation, industrial finishing and plastic coatings.

Borchi® Gol LA 200 by Borchers (Milliken) is a 100% active and VOC-free defoamer, flow- and leveling agent. It is a solvent-free, polyether-modified polysiloxane additive. It is suitable for solvent-free, solvent- and water-based coating systems.

• It provides an improvement in substrate wetting and block and scratch resistance.
• It can quickly remove air bubbles from applied coated surfaces and avoids micro-foam formation at all production stages.
• It can increase surface slip and promotes higher gloss and less haze in cured finishes.
• It is designed for use in general industrial-, decorative-, automotive OEM- and automotive refinish.
• The recommended dosage of Borchi® Gol LA 200 is 0.05-0.30% of the total weight of the formulation depending upon the binder type and which property is being addressed.

Bentone SD® -2 by Elementis acts as a rheological additive for moderate to high polarity solvents ketones, esters, glycol ethers and alcohols, including polar systems with some aromatic solvents. It is an organic derivative of a bentonite clay.

• It provides stable viscosity build, controls sag and pigment settling.
• It offers easy incorporation and eliminates need for pregel and chemical activator.
• It is a cost-effective replacement for conventional organoclay additives.
• It can be added as a powder to the millbase either before or after the pigment dispersion or during letdown.
• It disperses very easily, even under low shear conditions.
• Bentone SD® -2 is suitable for anti-corrosion paints, automotive finishes/primers, foundry paints, gravure printing inks, industrial finishes, inorganic zinc-rich coatings, maintenance coatings, NC lacquers/inks, vinyl paints.
• Recommended dosage level is 0.2-1%.
• It has a shelf life of 4 years.

WANNATE® HTBL-175S by Wanhua Chemical is a MEKO blocked aliphatic polyisocyanate based on 75% hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and dissolved in 25% Solvent naphtha 100. It can be used as a hardener in colorfast, weather-stable, one-component polyurethane coatings. It improves flexibility and adhesion in conventional stoving systems.

• It is compatible with various plasticizers such as phosphoric-, sulphonic-, adipic acid and phthalic acid esters.
• It is suitable for high-grade industrial finishes such as electrical appliances, small components, can- and coil coatings.
• WANNATE® HTBL-175S is also used in primer surfaces and topcoats for automotive finishes.

DURANATE™ TPA-100 distributed by DKSH is a high-performance aliphatic polyisocyanate hardener designed to enhance the durability and longevity. It is made from toluene diisocyanate (TDI). It offers superior adhesion, excellent weather resistance, and improved gloss retention.

• It provides high NCO content, lower viscosity, good coating film appearance and low residual monomer.
• DURANATE™ TPA-100 is suitable for two-component applications, including plastic coatings, automotive refinishes, industrial, automobile and motorcycle base coats and top coats, as well as heavy-duty coatings.
• It is available in Canada.

WANNATE® HT-500 by Wanhua Chemical is a solvent-free, low-viscosity, aliphatic polyisocyanate based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). It can be used as a hardener component for waterborne, lightfast two-component polyurethane coatings, especially for preparing water-dispersible low-viscosity curing agents.

• It offers high NCO content, excellent gloss & color retention and outstanding mechanical properties.
• It provides light and weather stability and is capable of ambient temperature-curing.
• It can be used alongside other polyisocyanates such as WANNATE® HT-100, WANNATE® HT-400 and WANNATE® IT-170B.
• It shows compatibility with aliphatic- and aromatic polyisocyanates, polyester polyols and polyacrylates.
• WANNATE® HT-500 is suitable for coatings applications such as automotive refinishing, transportation, plastics and industrial finishing.
