KBM 803

KBM 803 is 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane by Shin-Etsu. It is a mercapto functionalized silane coupling agent. It also functions as a sort of intermediary which bonds organic materials to inorganic materials. The individual molecules contain two types of reactive functional groups that are mercapto group and alkoxy group characterized by different reactivity thus bonding with both organic and inorganic materials. KBM 803 is extensively used in adhesives to improve adhesion. It improves desirable qualities such as mechanical strength, electrical properties, moisture- and chemical resistance.
