Supplied byShin-Etsu- Last Updated on Aug 1, 2022

KBM 503 by Shin-Etsu is 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane. Used as a coupling agent. The individual molecules contain two types of reactive functional groups that are methacryloxy group and alkoxy group characterized by different reactivity thus bonding with both organic and inorganic materials. It improves desirable qualities such as mechanical strength, moisture- & chemical resistance and electrical properties. It is extensively used in adhesives to improve adhesion. KBM 503 acts as a sort of intermediary which bonds organic materials to inorganic materials.
