Irgafos®

Polymer additives supplied by BASF
Irgafos® by BASF is a range of secondary antioxidants and hydrolytically stable phosphite processing stabilizers for plastics, fibers, and elastomers. These additives work synergistically with primary antioxidants to protect polymers from thermo-oxidative degradation during processing.

Key features of Irgafos® brand include:

  • Secondary antioxidant phosphite technology
  • Hydrolytically stable grades
  • Protection against thermo-oxidative degradation
  • Improved color and viscosity retention
  • Synergistic performance with primary antioxidants

Irgafos® 168

by BASF

Irgafos® 168 by BASF is tris(2,4-di-tert.-butylphenyl) phosphite. It is a hydrolytically stable phosphite processing stabilizer. It also acts as a secondary antioxidant which induces degradation and extends the performance of primary antioxidants. It has low volatility and is particularly resistant to hydrolysis. Provides storage stability and gives the polymer long term protection against thermo-oxidative degradation, during the processing steps (compounding/pelletizing, fabrication and recycling) from molecular weight change (by chain scission or crosslinking) and prevents discoloration. Irgafos® 168 is suitable for polyesters, styrene homo- and copolymers, polyolefins, olefin-copolymers, HDPE & LLDPE, polypropylene, polybutene and ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers applications. It is also used in polycarbonates, polyamides, elastomers such as BR, SEBS, SBS, and other organic substrates.

Irgafos® 126

by BASF

Irgafos® 126 by BASF is a high performance organo-phosphite processing stabilizer. It protects polymers from molecular weight changes and from thermo-oxidative degradation during processing by decomposing hydroperoxides to form non-radical, non-reactive products during the processing steps (compounding, pelletizing, fabrication, and recycling). It prevents polymer discoloration and provides high performance at low concentration levels. It shows synergistic performance when used in combination with primary antioxidants from the Irganox range and can be used in combination with light stabilizers from the Tinuvin and Chimasorb range. Irgafos® 126 is suitable for polyethylene, polypropylene, other polymers such as engineering plastics, styrene homo- and copolymers, polyurethanes, elastomers and ethylene-vinylacetate copolymers applications. Its recommended dosage is 0.05-0.15%.
