2-Ethylhexanol. Acts as a plasticizer and defoaming agent. Manufactured using the OXO process involving hydroformylation of propylene to N-butyraldehyde followed by an aldol condensation and reduction to produce ethylhexanol. Miscible with most common organic solvents, but miscibility with water is limited. Recommended for the use as a feedstock in the manufacture of low volatility esters, out of which the most important is di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DOP or DEHP).
