Matrimid® 5218

Matrimid® 5218 by Huntsman is a soluble thermoplastic polyimide. Acts as a flexibilizer. It is based on a proprietary diamine, 5(6)-amino-1-(4' aminophenyl)-1,3,-trimethylindane. Matrimid® 5218 is fully imidized during manufacturing, eliminating the need for high temperature processing. It offers good thermal stability, high glass transition temperature and an excellent adhesion on various substrates such as engineering plastics. Possesses an excellent chemical resistance to water, steam, brine, acids, caustic and non-polar organic solvents, unlike other polyimides. It is soluble in a variety of common solvents (i.e. CH₂Cl₂, CHCl₃, THF, DMAC, DMF, NMP). Matrimid® 5218 has compatibility with epoxies and other chemistries. Used in film casting.
