Optical Brighteners / Whitening Agents

Based on 288 products - Last update on the Jun 26, 2025

Optical brighteners or whitening agents are used in plastics to enhance their appearance by making them look brighter and less yellow. These agents function by absorbing ultraviolet light and re-emitting it as visible blue light, which masks any yellowing and gives the plastic a whiter, more vibrant appearance. Key features include improved color brightness, enhanced visual appeal, and increased product longevity. Optical brighteners are particularly suitable for applications in packaging, consumer goods, and automotive parts.

Alternatives to optical brighteners include UV stabilizers. Sub-types include fluorescent whitening agents and non-fluorescent brighteners.
