Desiccants are typically presented as granular or bead-like materials, often white or translucent in appearance. They function by adsorbing moisture from the surrounding environment, effectively preventing the formation of air bubbles and other defects during plastic processing. Key features of desiccants include their high moisture absorption capacity, ease of integration into various processing systems, and ability to maintain the mechanical properties and appearance of the final product. Used in injection molding, extrusion, and film production, where moisture control is crucial for ensuring product quality and consistency. 

Alternatives to desiccants include drying agents and dehumidifiers. Sub-types include silica gel, calcium oxide, and molecular sieves.
