Acid Scavengers

Based on 178 products - Last update on the Jun 26, 2025

Acid scavengers are used in plastics to neutralize acidic impurities, resulting in a stable and durable material. These agents typically have a granular or powdery appearance and function by reacting with and neutralizing acids, such as hydrochloric acid (HCl), which can be released during polymer degradation. Key features include enhanced thermal stability, improved longevity, and protection against acid-catalyzed degradation. Used in packaging, automotive parts, window profiles, door frames, pipes and fittings, cables and wires, textiles, and aerospace industry.

Alternatives to acid scavengers include antioxidants and UV stabilizers. Current trend is the development of non-toxic and eco-friendly acid scavengers that aim to reduce environmental impact while maintaining high performance. Acid scavengers are available in various sub-types, such as hydrotalcites and calcium-based compounds.

DHT-4A™

by Kisuma Chemicals (Kyowa Chemical Industry)

DHT-4A™ by Kisuma Chemicals (Kyowa Chemical Industry) is a high performance acid scavenger. It can adsorb acids based on anion-exchange and is three times more effective as Ca-St. It acts as acid acceptor in halogenated rubbers such as CR, CSM, FKM and NBR, where high water resistance and chemical resistance is required. It provides protection of functional additives, such as phenolic and phosphite antioxidants and hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) from deactivation.

It exhibits rendering acids originating from monomers in bioplastics inert, increasing hydrolytic stability.

It shows scavenging of free halogen ions deriving from radicals in halogenated flame retardants.

DHT-4A™ captures residual acids in maleic anhydride grafted polymers, improving organoleptic properties and corrosion problems.

It has an anion exchange capacity and a neutralizing effect due to its alkalinity.

Its dispersion characteristics are excellent which further contributes to its high functionality.

It is used in polyolefins, elastomers and other polymers. DHT-4A™ can be used at low dosage levels which ensures polymer physical- and optical properties are unaffected.

DHT™ -4V

by Kisuma Chemicals (Kyowa Chemical Industry)

DHT™ -4V by Kisuma Chemicals (Kyowa Chemical Industry) acts as an acid scavenger in polymer production and processing. It has surface treated with RSPO certified vegetable-based agent. It can deactivate the residual quantities of acidic substances associated with ziegler-natta, friedel craft, metallocene or other acid catalysts used to produce polymers or elastomers. It can be used at low dosage levels which ensures polymer physical- and optical properties are unaffected.

It offers mechanism of adsorbing acids based on anion-exchange.

DHT™ -4V is recommended for production and processing of polyolefin.

It meets with FDA regulations and EU 10/2011 (plastic materials and articles intended to come in contact with foodstuffs).

It enhances the heat, fluid and ageing resistance of chloroprene (CR) and epichlorohydrin (ECO) rubbers.

It improves both the mechanical and the chemical resistance of rubber compounds.

It is high-performance, PFAS-free elastomer solutions without compromising quality.

It enables formulators and sustainability-driven material specifiers to reduce or eliminate the use of fluorinated elastomers like FKM, thus reducing the reliance on materials flagged as hazardous to human health and the environment.

DHT™ -4V also contributes to the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals 12 (Responsible Consumption) and 13 (Climate Action) by improving production safety, regulatory compliance and long-term material sustainability.
