Fluoroelastomer/Fluorinated Rubber (FKM) appears as a dense, smooth elastomer ranging from black to light amber. Key features include exceptional resistance to fuels, oils, and aggressive chemicals, outstanding heat resistance, excellent compression set properties, exceptional aging stability, good mechanical properties, and resilience. FKM is widely used in aerospace o-rings, automotive fuel system components, chemical processing equipment, and oil exploration equipment. 

Alternatives include FFKM and HNBR. The industry is trending toward developing grades with improved low-temperature performance and processing characteristics. Various types exist according to fluorine content and monomer composition, including dipolymer (66% fluorine), terpolymer (68% fluorine), tetrapolymer (70% fluorine), and pentapolymer versions (up to 71% fluorine).

It is fully precompounded with reduced curative level and improved processing. It offers excellent storage stability, good mold flow, improved demolding hot tear resistance, good mold release with less mold fouling, good fluid resistance and good heat resistance. Also offers good metal bonding with standard industrial primers. It is processed by transfer molding, injection molding and compression molding.
