MCC's bioengineering plastic featured in AI speaker in Nissan Teana
Last update on Jan 20, 2026
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation announces that its plant-derived bioengineering plastic “DURABIO™” has been adopted for the AI speaker components in the new “Teana” that was launched in China by Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company in November 2025.
Better optical properties than conventional PC
DURABIO™ is a bioengineering plastic primarily made from plant-derived isosorbide. Compared to conventional polycarbonate resins, it features higher transparency and superior optical properties. While being a plant-derived polymer, the material is also excellent in weather resistance and durability.
The top of the dashboard of the new “Teana” features an AI speaker that enables voice-based interaction and operation. The speaker has an inverted pyramid design. When illuminated, six light pillars rhythmically emit light in 256 colors and create a crystal-like, colorful, and transparent texture, bringing a sense of dynamism to the interior of the car.
Gain insights on how to achieve high transparency in your plastic products.
DURABIO™ was selected for its high designability such as superior transparency and optical properties, making it suitable for creating a luxurious and vibrant car interior space, as well as for its high durability that makes it a resin usable without requiring a clear coat.
MCC will continue to provide high-value-added products by expanding the DURABIO™ lineup.
