Richard Kennedy

Richard Kennedy

Independent Consultant / Technical Editor UK OCCA’s Surface Coatings International Journal

Biography

After obtaining a chemistry degree from the University of Oxford, Richard Kennedy spent time at the University of Kent at Canterbury as a Ph.D. student, and at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio as a Research Associate. On returning to the UK, he worked at the Paint Research Association (PRA), based in West London, for 28 years.

Initially employed as a Senior Research Officer in the company’s research laboratories, he was involved in a number of UK government-funded coatings projects with a particular emphasis on surface analysis and other chemistry techniques, outdoor durability, and radiation curing coatings.

In 2004, he became responsible for the company’s library, one of the largest independent coatings libraries in the world, and shortly after, the PRA’s technical journals; at one point he was editor of the Waterborne and High Solids Coatings, RADnews, and Polymer Curing Technologies publications. In later years, he focused more on writing EU- and UK government-funded project proposals for PRA clients.

Richard left PRA in 2015 to become a self-employed consultant. He continues to lecture on PRA’s Paint Technology and Radiation Curing training courses and in the last couple of years has been the News and Technical Editor of UK OCCA’s Surface Coatings International journal.
