Ethylparaben. Acts as a preservative. Shows most activity against fungi and Gram-positive bacteria. Often used in combination with other preservatives to provide broad spectrum protection. It may be inactivated by non-ionic emulsifiers, cellulose derivatives, and proteins. It is reasonably heat stable and sparingly soluble in cold water. The use level is usually less than 0.3% of the finished product. Grades meeting USP/NF and BP/EP specifications are available.
