Glycerin. Glycerol by Gustav Heess acts as an ointment base, humectant, denaturant, solvent and perfuming agent.
  • It is obtained through fat hydrolysis, synthesis with propene, alcoholic fermentation and saccharide hydrolysis followed by catalytic hydrogenation.
  • Moreover, it is naturally present in tallow (10%) and coconut- (17%), palm- (11%) & soya (10%) oils.
  • It is highly hygroscopic and exhibits greasy texture.
  • Glycerol finds application in formulating hand & face care products and cleansing products such as shower gel, cleansing milk or shampoo.
