Last update on Aug 18, 2025

Methyl Gluceth-10 is a humectant and skin-conditioning agent with a non-tacky and silky finish. It attracts moisture from the environment and traps it on the upper layers of the skin to leave it feeling moisturized for long durations. In its raw form, Methyl Gluceth-10 appears as a pale yellow, viscous liquid that is soluble in water. Being derived from natural sources, it is gentle, safe, and compatible for ‘green’ formulations. Methyl Gluceth-10 is also suitable for sensitive skin. It is commonly added to lightweight moisturizers and serums, hydrating toners, body lotions, cleansers, and conditioners. The chemical formula of Methyl Gluceth-10 is C23H46O14.

What is METHYL GLUCETH-10 used for?

Methyl Gluceth-10 is a gentle moisturizer that works on both skin and hair to leave them feeling soft, hydrated, and smooth without any greasy residue. It is a common ingredient in lotions, cleansers, and hair products.

For skin: Methyl Gluceth-10 attracts moisture from the environment and traps it on the outer layers of the skin. Its lightweight, non-sticky texture makes it ideal for use in hydrating serums, toners, and moisturizers, especially for sensitive or acne-prone skin. It also improves the spreadability and feel of products, leaving the skin feeling soft, refreshed, and supple without clogging pores.

For hair: In hair care, Methyl Gluceth-10 moisturizes and smooths the shafts while helping enhance shine. It is often included in leave-in conditioners, shampoos, and styling products for its ability to reduce dryness and static. Because it is non-greasy and highly water-soluble, it rinses out easily and doesn’t cause buildup - making it suitable even for fine or oily hair types.

Origin

Methyl Gluceth-10 is derived from glucose, which is first converted to methyl glucoside. It is then reacted with 10 units of ethylene oxide to form Methyl Gluceth-10. This ethoxilation reaction makes the ingredient more water soluble and improves its ability to retain moisture. Methyl Gluceth-10, a synthetic derivative of natural sugar, is purified before use in cosmetics.
