HYDROLYZED LUPINE PROTEIN

Last update on Aug 26, 2025

Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein is a plant-derived cosmetic ingredient with conditioning, rejuvenating, and anti-aging benefits. It is loaded with 35-45% of all essential amino acids, which help in deeply conditioning and strengthening both skin and hair. This, in turn, improves their texture and elasticity, as well as resilience against environmental damage. In its raw form, Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein appears as a clear yellow to amber liquid, with a faint herbal odor. Being water soluble, it is easy to incorporate into serums, masks, creams, shampoos, and conditioners. To further enhance its hydrating effects, Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein can be paired with other ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid.

It is interesting to note that this protein is less common in cosmetics when compared to other proteins like keratin, as it is not as easy to source. However, Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein is gaining popularity in clean beauty markets and eco-conscious brands due to its plant-based origin and vegan nature.

What is HYDROLYZED LUPINE PROTEIN used for?

Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein is a protein-rich botanical ingredient that helps nourish and rejuvenate both skin and hair.

In skin care: Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein hydrates the skin and improves moisture retention - strengthening the skin’s barrier over time. It also enhances firmness and elasticity, thus helping reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Due to this, it is often marketed as a collagen-boosting or anti-aging ingredient.

In hair care: Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein is an incredible anti-static ingredient. Its hydrating benefits leave the hair smooth, soft, and shiny. It repairs damaged hair and enhances resilience to reduce hairfall. Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein is especially beneficial for treating the damage caused to the hair shafts by color treatments or chemical processes.

Origin

Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein comes from the seeds of the sweet white lupine plant. This plant is known for its high nutritional value, and its cultivation goes way back to ancient Greece and Egypt. The seeds are ground and soaked in water to isolate lupine protein. This extract then undergoes hydrolysis to enhance its water solubility and its ability to penetrate skin and hair - for deeper nourishment. The resulting Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein is then filtered and concentrated or powdered.
