What is GLYCERETH-7 used for?

Glycereth-7 has a wide range of uses in personal care products where it benefits both skin and hair. It is primarily a humectant but also functions as an emollient, surfactant, and solvent. It is extensively used in the beauty sector to enhance the performance of cosmetic formulations.

  • Skin care: Glycereth-7 draws moisture from the environment into the skin making it ideal for dehydrated skin types. Being a lightweight ingredient, it moisturizes the skin without making it feel greasy. Further, it enhances the spreadability of creams and serums, allowing them to glide smoothly over the skin. When used in makeup removers and facial cleansers, Glycereth-7 dissolves oil and dirt present on the skin without stripping it of its natural moisture.
  • Hair care: In hair care, Glycereth-7 helps hair retain moisture and prevents dryness. It conditions the shafts and reduces frizz - improving hair health overall. In shampoos, it helps create a gentle foam that cleanses without over-drying the scalp or hair.

Origin

Glycereth-7 is made from glycerin which is modified with ethylene oxide to enhance its water solubility and functionality. First, seven units of ethylene oxide are added to glycerin under controlled conditions. The mixture is then neutralized and purified.
