DI-PPG-2 MYRETH-10 ADIPATE

Last update on Dec 11, 2025

Di-PPG-2 Myreth-10 Adipate is a multifunctional, alkoxylated diester emollient. It is known for its water-dispersible and surfactant-compatible properties. It imparts a silky, non-greasy feel while acting as a solubilizer for oils and fragrances in aqueous systems. Commonly used in cleansing products like body washes, shampoos, facial cleansers and bath oils, it enhances sensory attributes and mitigates irritation from surfactants. Its versatility supports transparent formulations and improves slip and detangling in hair care.

What is DI-PPG-2 MYRETH-10 ADIPATE used for?

  • Emollient: Provides a smooth, velvety skin feel without heaviness. Frequently incorporated in body washes, lotions and cleansing oils for enhanced after-feel.
  • Skin conditioning: Softens and conditions skin and hair while reducing surfactant-induced irritation. Ideal for sensitive skin cleansers, shampoos and baby products.
  • Solubilizing/Surfactant: Disperses oils and actives in water-based systems. Common in micellar waters, toners and transparent gels for uniform distribution.

Origin

Di-PPG-2 Myreth-10 Adipate is synthesized through ethoxylation and propoxylation of myristyl alcohol (derived from vegetable sources like coconut). It is followed by esterification with adipic acid. The controlled alkoxylation process (approximately 10 moles EO and 2 moles PPG) yields a clear, low-viscosity liquid with broad compatibility.

Safety Profile

Di-PPG-2 Myreth-10 Adipate is considered safe for cosmetic use, with low irritation potential. Studies show it can reduce surfactant-induced irritation by up to 40% at 5%. It earns a moderate hazard rating in some assessments due to ethoxylation concerns, though modern production minimizes residuals. Use levels of 1 to 10% are well-tolerated across skin types. It is approved by the EU COSING database for skin conditioning and emollient functions in rinse-off and leave-on products.
