Decylene glycol is a synthetic glycol that softens skin by acting as a skin conditioner. Additionally, glycols make products easier to apply and can improve the penetration of other ingredients. It is a short-chain 1,2-glycol. The 1,2-glycols are primarily used in cosmetic products as viscosity-increasing agents and as conditioners for the skin, hair, and nails.

What is DECYLENE GLYCOL used for?
Decylene glycol has characteristics that can help a cosmetic's preservation system. Its structure contains two -OH groups, which gives it the chemical property of drawing many other positive ions to it. Since many of the vital enzymes produced by microorganisms can bind to this group, rendering them inactive or dead, this particular property can be fatal to them. As a result, it is helpful, particularly when dealing with bacteria-prone issues like acne or body odor.
- Skin care: It softens skin by acting as a skin conditioner. Additionally, glycols make products easier to apply and can improve the penetration of other ingredients. Usage levels in skin care products typically range from 0.1 to 2%, with higher dosages helping other ingredients penetrate the skin more effectively. Additionally, it has a moisturizing effect and creates a temporary thin film on the skin's surface. It lessens the likelihood of irritation that would otherwise be brought on by other preservatives
- Hair care: Based on a study that looked into how well it inhibited the scalp fungus Malassezia and managed sebum production, it can also be regarded as a safe candidate for next-generation scalp care. The study demonstrated Decylene glycol’s potential to maintain scalp health and prevent inflammation by controlling sebum production and inhibiting the scalp fungus, Malassezia
Origin
Decylene glycol is frequently produced commercially by catalytically oxidizing the corresponding alkene oxide or reducing the corresponding 2-hydroxy acid.

SKIN CONDITIONINGSafety Profile
According to the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR), decylene glycol do not appear to be a significant acute toxicant, genotoxicant, carcinogen, or significant dermal irritant, sensitizer, or photosensitizer based on the safety test data that are currently available. It has a score of 1 on the Environmental Working Group (EWG’s) skin-deep scale, indicating a low potential for cancer, allergies, immunotoxicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, and use restrictions.
