CI 73360 is safe and has been approved for use in cosmetics since its only function is to add color to a product. However, its concentration cannot be more than 10% in any formulation. It is approved for cosmetic use in the EU (Annex IV) and by the FDA for external use (including lip area in the US). It has a low to moderate hazard rating from EWG (typically 1-3). Also, it can be slightly toxic if accidently consumed. It is recommended to do a patch test before full application of products with red 30 lake. Lasty, CI 73360 is halal and vegan.
