What is CI 45410 used for?

CI 45410 is a cosmetic colorant used to impart a reddish color.
  • Decorative makeup: It is incorporated into the formulation of cosmetics like foundation, blush, and lipstick. It has a pH-sensitive dye version, that causes a colorless lip balm to turn red or pink when used
  • Hair care: It is used as a direct dye in oxidative hair dye formulations at a maximum concentration of 2%. It is also proposed to be used in semi-permanent hair dye formulations at a maximum concentration of 0.4% in the finished cosmetic product

Origin

CI 45410 is produced from petroleum or coal tar sources. It can also be obtained from the reaction of resorcinol and tetrachlorophthalic anhydride to form tetrachlorofluorescein, and then brominated.

CI 45410 is capable of causing skin and eye irritation and is subject to use restrictions in cosmetics. The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) believes that the use of Acid Red 92 at maximum on-head concentrations of 2.0% in oxidative hair dye formulations and 0.4% in non-oxidative hair dye formulations does not endanger the health of the consumer based on the available information.
