UPM Biofibrils

UPM Biofibrils by UPM is a collection of isolated cellulose fibrils, or fibril bundles, obtained from natural wood-based pulp. Acts as a rheology modifier. The small dimensions of UPM Biofibrils lead to a high specific surface area and a strong interaction with water. This gives a very special type of rheology characterized by a high stabilizing effect in combination with viscosity reducing behavior and an increased shear rate. The two main functions of UPM Biofibrils, namely the rheology modifier as well as reinforced fiber, offer a range of possibilities for shaping materials and giving them new characteristics. Through its rheology controlling functions the product can improve the stability of suspensions with low dosage and save costs. UPM Biofibrils also has remarkably good gas barrier properties, which can bring added value to coatings.
