Iso butanol. Acts as a solvent. It is a clear, mobile, neutral liquid with a characteristic odor. The large part of the Iso butanol produced is converted into derivatives (primarily esters). It is miscible with all common solvents, e.g., alcohols, ketone, aldehydes, ethers, glycols, and aromatic as well as aliphatic hydrocarbons, but is only sparingly soluble in water. When it is added in small proportions to alkyd resin paints, it reduces the viscosity and thus improves the brush ability as well as flow. Used for acid curable lacquers and printing inks.
