Tetrakis hydroxymethyl phosphonium sulphate. Acts as a biocide. It is a quaternary phosphonium compound. It quickly degrades to a non-toxic substance soon after use. It exhibits broad-spectrum activity for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It is particularly effective against sulphur reducing bacteria, spore forming bacteria, heterotrophic slime forming bacteria and algae. It can also be applied to fabric coating to improve flame retarding property.
