Nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC)

Nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC). It is extracted from the wood fibers of Canada’s vast forests. It is a uniform, redispersible natural nanoparticle obtained from the crystalline regions of cellulose fibers. NCC is composed of crystallites with average dimensions of 100nm length and 5nm diameter. NCC is tested to be practically non-toxic, renewable, recyclable and biodgradable. Has a measured surface area of ~500 m2/g allowing for high reactivity. Improves the strength, toughness and can reduce damage caused by wear, humidity as well as spectral radiation. Can impart impact and abrasion resistance to materials. Used in coatings, paints, lacquers and inks.
