Naphthenic Acid by Umicore is a drier, corrosion inhibitor, wetting agent and dispersing agent. It is highly stable in aliphatic hydrocarbons and shows an easy way of dispersion in most paint formulation. It improves the gloss of a coating. It is available in distilled, crude and semi distilled types. The metal soaps of naphthenic acids are widely used as driers. Both naphthenic acids and certain naphthenates are used as a dispersing agent for carbon black in the printing ink industry. Lead and calcium naphthenates are used in the formulation of some temporary protective coatings. Naphthenic Acid is also applicable in varnishes.
