BYK® -4509

Supplied byBYK- Last Updated on May 13, 2021

BYK® -4509 by BYK is a salt of a polymer with acidic groups. Acts as an adhesion promoter for solvent-borne and aqueous systems. The neutralized, acidic groups of the silicone-free adhesion promoter create a strong affinity, in particular to metallic substrates, and improve adhesion to steel, galvanized steel, aluminum and also to glass. It reacts with melamine resins and olyisocyanates and is bound into the polymer matrix through this. It is compatible with most binders and is therefore ideal for universal use. Recommended for use in baking systems and 2 K systems. In solvent-borne, acid-catalyzed systems, it has no influence on cross-linking and in aqueous systems, shows very good pH stability. BYK® -4509 is used in can-, coil-, industrial- and protective coatings. Recommended dosage is 1-4% of additive based upon total formulation. It has a shelf life of 36 months at 20°C.
